sunnyb0y
Hello, We have shortlisted prestashop (coupled with a yet to be selected purchased theme) for a new ecommerce project. I have looked through the pdf features list which sounds very impressive but just need to confirm a few things before starting. The website is for a region specific fresh produce delivery business in Australia (eg fruit, vegetables, nuts etc delivered in a small localised area). 1. Free delivery if minimum purchase is reached ($20) Otherwise a delivery fee will apply - but the client would like an elastic delivery fee that adjusts relative to the products in the cart so the minimum purchase is always $20. Eg so for orders under $20, the purchase amount plus the delivery fee should equal $20 Example 1: Say there are carrots, potatoes, nuts and flowers in the cart with a sub total of $11. The delivery fee should be $9. This makes a total of $20 Example 2: Say there are carrots and flowers in the cart with a sub total of $7. The delivery fee should be $13. This makes a total of $20 Example 3: There are many items in the cart with a sub total of $25. The delivery is free. This makes a total of $25 Is this possible / supported? 2. Product options with price variations Some products will have 2 or 3 different options (eg Pumpkins: quarter, half or whole - Potatoes: 1kg, 5kg or 10kg - Bread: sliced or unsliced) with different prices per option. It would be nice to include the product once on the site (eg white potatoes) and then list the options / variations available (eg 1kg, 5kg, 10kg) – with options chosen from a select drop down box. Is this possible / supported? 3. Category pages to list all relevant products To make it quicker for customers, the client would like to list all relevant products on the category page with product name, description, price, any options, quantity field and photo and allow direct add to cart from the category page. Is this possible / supported? 4. Guest checkout for non-login orders Is this possible / supported? 5. Passive / ajax add to cart So the full cart only appears when a user clicks to see the cart / their order (not each time an item is added to the cart) Is this possible / supported? Is this more related to the theme? 6. Customer order management Is it possible for returning customers to login and: a. review their past orders b. to manually repeat an order or c. to setup an automatic repeated order on a scheduled basis (eg weekly, fortnightly, monthly) 7. Admin order management The client would like access to “Product order summary reports” that combines the total produce from all orders from a specified period so they know what produce they need to buy at the market. Eg If 5 different customers order 1kg carrots, 1kg potatoes and 1kg grapes, in the report they would like a combined summary listing all different products and their quantities – ie 5kg carrots, 5kg potatoes and 5kg grapes. At this stage I am unsure if they want these on a daily or slightly less regular basis (eg every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday). Whether by email or within the login admin area that they can download / print or save as a pdf. Is this possible / supported? 8. Restricting purchases to certain postcodes The client will only deliver within a certain localised area, defined by Australian 4 digit post (zip) codes. Is it possible to restrict purchases (eg prevent checkout) to certain postcodes? 9. Postcode finder search We would like to provide website visitors with a postcode finder so that they can enter their postcode in a search field and check whether the client delivers to that area based on a postcode list within the cart admin. With customiseable success and unsuccessful messages. Is this possible / supported? 10. Product import / export Is this possible / supported? For each query, please advise if these are possible with your cart. Will they work straight out of the box or is an extra plugin required? If an extra plugin is required, what is the additional cost? Thanks in advance for any help. Edited July 16, 2013 by sunnyb0y (see edit history)
Dh42
Ok, I will try to answer them all. 1. Yes, the shipping options are very powerful. 2. Yes totally, This is an example of it http://bijouthings.com/music-ipods/5-ipod-touch.html#/disk_space-16gb 3. That would have to be custom programmed, or you could use a quick shopping module like this one http://www.presto-changeo.com/en/attribute-modules/89-quick-shop.html 4. Yes, guest checkout is supported 5. Yes, it is support but different themes can have different variations of it. 6. a, b, Yes. C, no, it could be done with an external module, but I don't know of one right off the top of my head. 7. Yes, that is supported in the stats of prestashop 8. Natively not really, it can be accomplished with this module http://www.presto-changeo.com/en/shipping-modules/83-localized-shipping.html 9. This would be something more that would have to be written into the theme than anything. 10 Yes
sunnyb0y
Thanks for taking the time to answer DH42, that's wonderful. Wow, PrestaShop sounds very capable. Re 3, the quick shop module looks a little clunky for what we are after. I have seen some sites do it really well but not sure what cart they use. Adding a quantity field and an add to cart button on the category page for each product is preferred for our example, with perhaps the quick shop for products that have options. Not sure if that is possible? I'd be interested if anyone knows re 6c. Thanks again.
Dh42
What you want can be done, it would just take a little custom programming. Not too much though, so it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Are you handling the development yourself?
sunnyb0y
Ah I see, ok that's awesome to know. Yes I am - but I'm happy to engage a PS expert to make those particular technical points happen.
Dh42
Cool, it might be a good idea. Some of the things you are looking for might be difficult for someone that is new to the platform to pull off.
sunnyb0y
Ps there is one other query I have... 11. Two price types At this stage it looks like 2 different price types are required, depending on the product. One is price per kilo (eg carrots, onions), the other is unit price by item (eg bag of nuts, bouquet of flowers). Is this possible / supported or is there a better way to organise pricing with these kind of products with PrestaShop? sunnyb0y
Agreed, where is the best place to find a PrestaShop programmer so those kind of tasks? In the forum? Or some other website?
Dh42
You can have as many different price by's as you want. Depending on what the product is, really depends on the intelligent way of setting up the product in the shop. Like say oranges that are sold in 2 kilo bags, I would just use quantity on them. But say carrots that you sell by the kilo, I would just have price per kilo and let someone enter how many kilos they want. As for looking for a programmer, the forum has a place for job requests. One thing that will help with getting lots of quotes is have a post that has a pretty clear scope of everything that you want the developer to do. sunnyb0y
Wow, this cart seems to have it all! That's excellent re the different price types - thanks for the detailed info. Roger that - thanks for letting me know, that sounds sensible. Thanks again DH42 - you've been a great help.

sunnyb0y
Thanks DH52. ps - if I engage somone to do some work via the forumns, what is the best practice with PS for maintaining the security of the site? Do you setup a dummy install and have the work done on there, and then upload the files etc into the actual install? Or do you create a new user on the actual install and try to monitor what files change etc? Appreciate any tips. Dh42
I think the general rule is to not hire someone you do not trust. Like every where else, there are bad people, but a lot of the users here rely on their reputation for work. I would look for people that post a lot, have a good amount of likes on their posts, and seem active in the forum. One thing I would suggest is looking at their post histories, there are a few people that just come around to get work and give nothing back to the community. Those are the people I would personally be leery of, they really have no establishment here, so it doesn't matter if they get bad feedback. If all else fails, make a post and ask about the person. A lot of the members have been here a while and know which members are capable.
sunnyb0y
Excellent, thanks so much for the great advice. As a newbie with this shopping cart, its hard to know who to trust so early on so reputation / # of posts / likes / forum activity etc is a solid guide. Cheers again DH42, that's very helpful. sunnyb0y
Hello DH42, Another couple of questions to add this... I've been playing with PrestaShop and it looks very powerful and we'll definitely be using it for this project. 1. We won't be using inventory on this site given the fresh nature of the produce and that produce will generally be ordered from suppliers based on orders received (eg no stock will be held). What's the best way in PrestaShop to handle products that are not available for whatever reason (eg the tomato supplier has temporarily run out) after an order has been placed? a Delayed payment proessing with manual order review / adjustment by the site owner of every order in PrestShop admin and then adjusting the orders/totals? And once order is adjusted, process payment somehow via PrestShop admin. b Refund customers the difference of any produce not available if payment is immediate? Or some other option? 2. Purchases will be limited by suburb, with different suburbs having different delivery days (eg townA deliver day is Tuesday, townB delivery day is Thursday) In PrestaShop, how do we include the relevant delivery day in communication to customers re orders (on screen, in emails etc)? Is there a delivery day variable that can be used automatically in order-related communication relative to the customer's location (eg Thanks for your order. Your produce will be delivered on {delivery-day}...)? If you would prefer these new additions as a new post, please advise and I will set one up. Thanks in advance.
