Grid Category Look & Hiding Add to Cart

Hi,

 

im new to 1.5 but used previous versions before. Having a few issues.

 

1. How to you remove the add to cart button? I am in catalog mode and normally that would get rid, but instead it is sat there greyed out.

 

2. How can I make my category display in a grid format instead of a list.T

 

 

I've serached but cannot find a solution that works for me.
