Dh42
I use Prestashop and a few other software packages professionally and I have one major suggestion. I mentioned something about it in another post the other day, but it is really something that needs to be addressed. What would it take to slow the new development down and produce more stable versions. While at the same time having a support time frame for the old versions. All of the major software companies do it now. Instead of releasing minor version's that may or may not work with older versions, do as say Microsoft does. Release 1.5, support it for X number of months. Release security patches, hot fixes, bug fixes and what not. Do not try to majorly change the code base, keep it the same just fix the problems. But at the same time have a supported life span of the version. Something that is known to people. While at the same time start the major rewrite for the next version. Do not try to intermingle the code. It creates a better environment for the developers that use your products. Currently I have not seen anyone state how long 1.4 will be updated or kept secure. For me as a developer, I have to factor that in to shops I create. It is a lot easier to apply a patch that you guys create than developing one myself. Prestashop is great software, it is one of the platforms I have decided to make my living off of. Asa developer it would be nice to know these things in advance.
