Too bad PrestaShop uses Smarty

Recommended Posts

I hate Smarty and wish this PrestaShop did not use it. Going forward Smarty will be used less and MVC will rule. To me it just adds levels of abstraction that make a simple script complicated to maintain and change, especially for designers unfamiliar with the convolutions of the Smarty template system.

I hope version 2 will be without the Smarty system.

I am trying to find a way to work with Smarty in Dreamweaver.  It is supposedly not that hard to do.  The key is reported to be selecting "design-time" from the pop-up window in the CSS styles menu.  I have not set it all up and tried it for myself yet, but hope I can work with it this way.

I found the above info here:  http://www.phpinsider.com/smarty-forum/viewtopic.php?t=1849

If you are using MX, there is an extension available.  See my post in the Themes section here:

Anyone with any experience in this, I would love to hear from you!

Edited to add:  I'd rather learn to deal with Smarty and have a fast-loading PrestaShop site than have to live with a slow-loading site based on the Zend framework.  I say this even though my poor brain is exploding from  learning PHP and I don't want to have to add Smarty to my list of things to learn.
