Can't delete smarty template files from remote server

I'm trying to delete a test install of prestashop on a remote server, via ftp (the only access that I have).

 

I keep getting 'forbidden command' errors when trying to delete files in the folder /smarty/compile/.

 

Filenames are along the lines of "%%0D^0DB^0DB65273%%blockpermanentlinks.tpl.php"

 

I read somewhere that if filenames fail a regexp check, that's why you get a 'forbidden' error. Which implies they really shouldn't have some of these characters in there!

 

Can you help me out here?
