Cannot save product after upgrading to 1.4.017

Hi, I need some help. I have probably done something wrong?

 

I updated my site to 1.4.0.17 from 1.3x and everything worked great. However I can no longer save and update any products. When I click save (not having changed any setting even, but also with) saving results in the following text (instead of seeing the normal product fields/form etc)

Etc. How can I find out what has happened I am concerned about re-updating this as the site is live and can't afford to loose it. I have compared all relevant files and they all seem ok?
