problems with manufacturer module

Hello,
I would like to show my entire list of manufacturers ("designers" in my shop) on the left, ideally in a drop-down menu that is collapsed by default and opens on clicking the title bar of the block. Ditto for the Categories block (collapsed drop-down menu or fly-out menu).
I would also like to have my manufacturer page show a grid view as in this page: http://www.more4beauty.co.uk/manufacturer.php, but when I copy/paste the css for the #suppliers_list li, #manufacturers_list li in the global.css for my theme (ClotheShop by PrestaDesigners), the list is not side-by-side but remains a narrow-column list in which only the first designer shows (the rest are hidden unless I change the height to 1500 px).
