How Do I Start with PrestaShop for My First Online Store?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I’m completely new to PrestaShop and planning to launch my first online store using it. I’ve heard it’s a powerful platform, but I’m not sure how to get started the right way.

Here are a few questions I’m hoping the community can help with:

What’s the best way to install PrestaShop (locally or directly on hosting)?

Which version should I start with as a beginner?

Are there any must-have modules or themes to start with?

Any recommended steps after installation to make the store ready to launch?

I’m looking to build a simple store and grow from there, so any beginner-friendly advice or resources would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

1. It depends on your needs. For example, I install the store directly on hosting and deploy it via SSH.

2. Honestly I recommend starting with the latest version version 9. The time you finish setting up your store it will be a fully stable release. It is already working well. I am currently updating my templates to version 9 and it runs very fast.

3. Everything depends on your needs. A clean installation is already a fully functional store. I don’t know what you’re going to sell, but most users typically install modules for statistics, payment gateways, shipping providers, or integrations with wholesalers.

4. The store is a fully-fledged product out of the box.

Additionally, focus on finding a good theme. For your store to have a solid foundation, it’s important that the theme is up to date. Also, always check the quality of the modules. There are many welldeveloped modules out there, but unfortunately, there’s also a lot of junk.

@El Patron The PrestaShop team is working really efficiently, so I believe it's already safe to start building stores on PS9. For example, I’m launching my personal store on PS9 and it’s running very stably. So by the time the store in question is actually ready, I assume the versions you mentioned (9.0.1 or .2) will already be available.
