Visitors cannot see the products and the categories in my site

There are a few reasons why products and categories might not appear.

- They aren't assigned to the shop you're viewing (most likely just if using multishop but could also happen with an improper import which has set the shop_id wrong)

- Categories aren't assigned to the customer group(s)

- Category is set with "displayed" off in back office

- Category or category tree isn't parented to "Home"

- The category tree is corrupted (adding a new category can sometimes fix this as it forces it to recalculate the required fields)

Out of interest did you upgrade to 1.7.8 from an earlier version or has this just suddenly happened?

EDIT: Also worth just clearing the cache?

Are you using the default "Classic" theme? If you're using a custom theme, then it might be worth checking if they display ok if you switch to the classic theme. Also disable any third-party modules, especially ones that relate to product listing.

Added disable third-party module (see edit history)
