Upgrade from 1.7.4.2 to 1.7.8.10 gives error 500, getEcotax function not found on click product

I recently upgraded from 1.7.4.2 to 1.7.8.10 I could browse the list of products but clicking a product to view details gives error 500

below is the apache log data

Ok, somehow we had an override of Product class
