Customer message not showing in E-Mails, I just see the tag {message}

Hi there

I updated from prestashop 1.7.5 to 1.7.8.9 but keeped the email templates and now the order confirmation mail is missing the customer message. Instead of the message I just see the tag {message}. Same is when I generate new email templates with the modern theme and insert {message} as a placeholder. Is {message} not supported anymore or has the tag changed? It's really important to see the note a customer is leaving in a order!

Is there a solution to have the {message} displayed? I could only find verry old posts regarding to this topic for prestashop 1.6 and so on.
