where is "cost price" field actually used

Considering that net profit in presta's dashboard isnt calculated like I'd expect (price paid by customer - cost price) then Im wondering where is this "cost price" field actually used?

I migrated from shopify to presta and honestly I expected that this cost price will be used to calculate final profit.

From what I understand net profit in dashboard is calculated simply by multiplying total revenue by fixed percentage that one can configure in settings. I may be mistaken but if not then this is wonky and makes dashboard useless and inaccurate for me personally.
