Scully
Say prestashop version in use. In older versions you could activate a setting which allowed a customer to place ONE order with DIFFERENT delivery addresses. Internally, prestashop split them up in one order per address. This could be one reason.

Scully
Further options: 1. These products (or combinations) belong to different warehouses 2. These products are associated with different shipping carriers (see under Catalog > Products > [edit] > Shipping tab) 3. Delayed shipping. If one product is out of stock and another is in-stock, while you're enable option "Allow ordering of out of stock". In this case, the ready-to-ship products are put in a separate order. If non of these apply, de-install all non-default modules and see if this still happens.
