CSS editing presta 1.6.1.13 help pls

Hey there im trying to edit the css file to change some background, header, colors to add some imgs , etc but nothing is working have read some topics but no help ..tried to edit assets >>>>  theme.css file, no changes ...nothing... in older version there was no problem to edit global.css all was working fine..but now..im lost...thx for some hints guys

you can add your styles to a file - custom.css

well it did the job when i changed color

example:

body {

background: black;

 

but when i tried

 

background: url('../img/my_background.jpg');

 

nothing changed...image is uploaded and working  f.i.   www.mywebsite.com/img/my-image.com

 

any hint?
