[Solved] Blank page while viewing products in back office (Admin)

Hi,

I had a problem after the update from 1.2.5 to 1.3.1 with viewing products in the back office (got just a blank page).
When i enabled the error reporting in the config file no errors would appear
so i sherlocked my way thru some php files: (AdminCatalog.php, AdminProducts.php).

i found that the script stopped in the AdminProducts.php file with the following line:
Line nr. 1813

Category::recurseCategory($categories, $categories[0][1], 1, ($this->getFieldValue($obj, 'id_category_default') ? $this->getFieldValue($obj, 'id_category_default') : Tools::getValue('id_category', 1)));

i saw the 'recurseCategory' that reminded me of the 'home' (id: 1) category being displayed twice in the admin.
So apparently the problem started when i imported categories with CSV import tool that somehow made the 'Home' category became his/hers own parent.

Dont know yet if this originates in the AdminImport or some where else.

But if someone just gets a blank page in the admin section while viewing a product maybe this is worth checking out:

Open your prestashop database and view the table `ps_category`.
check the record with the primary key `id_category` set to '1', the field `parent_id` of the same record should not be set to '1' (make this a '0') update the record and check the admin again.

You can find records that claim to be there own parent by running this SQL

SELECT * FROM `ps_category` WHERE `id_category` = `id_parent`; 

I might add if you find an faulty record like this you need to find out how it got there in the first place and fix that problem (or report that as a bug)

Any developer / admin the wants to comment or improve this post is more than welcome.
