Virtual Item Missing In Back Office And More.

I'm having a problem with 1.6.1.1 where products don't save properly. I have uploaded several virtual items successfully and they show up under the product>virtual product tab when on the product editing page. Sometimes the virtual file is not listed and I only have the option to select  "Does this product have an associated file?" and try to re upload the file. I get no error when uploading. The file gets uploaded to the server and each attempt creates a new file. I'm trying to edit a file now and nothing will save not even switching from virtual file to standard product. It says that it saved but when I edit the product again nothing has changed/saved. Please help, this is slowly driving me insane.
