I Have A Functioning Prestashop Wed Based Store. Can I Move A Copy Of That To My Pc Somehow?

Is they a way I can keep an updated copy of my Prestashop web page folders and files on my PC?

 I’d like to be able to edit my web page’s category and product updates off line, prove it all out, and then upload the updates to my live Prestashop page from my PC.

At this point I’m suffering from full blown PTSD  (Prestashop Traumatic Strain Disorder) ...and am seeking counseling here.  I’ve been pounding my brains, trying to get my web page up and running, while running my business at the same time.  I’m working about 100 hours a week back and forth on the business and the web site here. So with all that in mind, I don’t really know if I set up and an running my Prestashop correctly or not. When I first started to setup my Presta shop page a few months back.  I think I received some help via a phone call to the technical help staff of my web host. I’m pretty sure it was they who advised me to install the initial Prestashop program files directly onto my domain...somehow. Like I said, I’m PTSD over this and my brains a bit fuzzy on how I got here.
   
    I do have Prestashop running my web site and as far as I can see, it seems to be a “functioning web site” that’s actually processing retail level sales ok. I do have mostly all of my categories and products all set up. But with that being said: uploading all those products (1 by 1) of my PC to my Prestashop’s Administration Panel located on the web, is a rather slow and tedious process...waiting for files to upload and such. Doing all this on a “live” web page, via all that editing through the web doesn’t seem like the best way to run a web site.

Plus I’d just feel safer knowing I had a functioning copy of my Prestashop web site on my PC.
Can I do this? ...and is having a copy og my Prestashop on my  PC, the best way/safest way to keep and updated copy and back ups of my web site?

I went to the cPanel at my Web Host’s site and looked up my public_html folder. But the download button/option has been turned off in that section of the cPanel.  I called them up, and they said it ties up too much band width, when they have people down loading from their, my domain host said that they don’t provide the tools to download my whole public_html off their server. Although they did say I could use a program called Filezilla to grab my files...so I went to  Filezilla web site, but they don’t keep older version of Filezilla available for Windows XP (my operating system)

The short answer is YES. But I guess you will need a help of IT friend to set it up.

 

Personally I use Windows so I installed Xampp control panel and then installed PrestaShop. Everything works for me.

If you will make a copy from your server you will have to change all URLs from DB.

 

The best way to keep backups is to use some kind of version control/git. 

 

Yes, you are right they do not say that winXP is supported but you should try 32bit version, it should work on your PC

Dragging files back and forth isn't the best option, but it's an easy and working option. A better solution would be to use some version control that will backup your changes. What you then can do with this is to have your live server automated to grab your local changes when you are done testing. So your shop is always up to date without you having to drag any files anywhere. But that is a bit more advanced but something worth mentioning.

 

I would start with Filezilla/Winscp and see how that works out for you.
