Running 1.6.1.1 and it's slow! Switch handler from suPHP to DSO for APC to work.

Prestashop says my 1.5 gig of memory and 16 processor server run like a toaster.

16) Intel® Xeon® CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz

1.5 gigs ram

Man thats one fast toaster I have and has no problem running anything else. (except presta 1.6.1.1)

So I have been looking around and trying to figure out what to do. I haven't run DSO is so long that I have forgot all the issues I use to have with it. I haven't run DSO since back in the good old days with postnuke & xoops .  ( RIP... Adam Baum )

Now at this point I am forced to do something. It sucks that I half to revert to some ancient php handler to try and speed up my site. Here is what I know...

My PHP handler is suPHP, which doesn't support opcode caching. To install any opcode cache software like APC & Xcache on the server, you half to change PHP handler to DSO.

Since, the PHP handler is suPHP the file permission for the suPHP is "user:user" and in DSO "user:nobody". To mitigate this issue we need to enable mod_ruid on the server which will use the same permission that of suPHP.

This is before you can even install APC or Xcache...

Fun fun fun...
