Show Manufacturers from Category on Category Page

Hello everyone. A couple different posts on this forum showed methods of pulling manufacturers from a selected category and displaying them on the category page when selecting that category. 

Those methods shown (links below) are for old previous versions of prestashop, and the code is no longer applicable in the new environment. Can anyone help me figure out how to get this to happen in v1.6 ?

this last one I thought was a great direction, but it gave errors in 1.6. . 

I'm using default bootstrap, brand new prestashop install, 1.6 only two 3rd party modules installed but currently disabled. 

I know someone has the solution, hopeful to see it.
