Prestashop 1.6.0.14 isn't google mobile friendly ?

Recommended Posts

I am starting a new webshop with prestashop (allready have 2 other prestashops older versions)

But when i checked the google mobile friendly test at https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

i noticed that the brand new prestashop isn't mobile friendly by default ??

My other two prestashops are mobile friendly without changing anything

www.famouswebshops.be (prestashop 1.6.0.14) ( not mobile friendly ?? )

www.dashcamcenter.be (prestashop 1.5.4.1) ( mobile friendly OK )

anyone knows why this changed , or how to fix it to a mobile friendly shop

did you address the issues in the report, i.e. images to wide...?

I ran adaptive.etiendas.co running native ps and default theme through same test, it passed.  So I suspect you have 'changed' something to get out of compliance.

I highly suggest investing in a high quality PrestaShop theme that is mobile ready, there are some really nice ones and well worth the price especially if you want to be mobile ready...The default theme will get your started but at the end of the day, it's basic with minimal configuration options.

also using chrome, ctl+shift+j, see top left you can view your pages by device...this will help you work out your default shop theme...

happy day, el

i haven't changed anything to the themes yet , it is the default-bootstrap theme that came with ps 1.6.0.14

i even changed the shop logo to an image of 200x35 pixel

famousthimo,

In your back office go to preferences - themes and locate the logo - invoice & email logos - icons - mobile tabs

choose mobile and ensure that your mobile theme has been enabled

this solved the issue for me :)

Hi,

off course i had already enabled the mobile theme : activate for mobile devices

Maybe this can be the problem why my site isn't mobile friendly ?

Prestashops build the robots.txt file telling google which directories not to index

# Directories
Disallow: */classes/
Disallow: */config/
Disallow: */download/
Disallow: */mails/
Disallow: */modules/
Disallow: */translations/
Disallow: */tools/

But it excludes more than just the main directories:

Disallow: */modules/

within this line it also excludes other directories like

www.mydomain.com/themes/default-bootstrap/css/modules/blockbestsellers/blockbestsellers.css

www.mydomain.com/themes/default-bootstrap/css/modules/blockcart/blockcart.css

www.mydomain.com/themes/default-bootstrap/css/modules/blockcategories/blockcategories.css

www.mydomain.com/themes/default-bootstrap/css/modules/....

Google mobile friendly test needs the css , but can't access it ?

Found the problem, indeed when i leave Disallow: /*modules/  out of the robots.txt my site is mobile friendly , but i can't just leave that line out , because google will index the modules directory.

anyone knows how to fix this BUG

Found the problem, indeed when i leave Disallow: /*modules/  out of the robots.txt my site is mobile friendly , but i can't just leave that line out , because google will index the modules directory.

anyone knows how to fix this BUG

After a bit of browsing, I found this little gem:

Replace:

Disallow: /*modules/

With:

Disallow: /*modules/*.xml$

Disallow: /*modules/*.txt$

Disallow: /*modules/*.php$

Disallow: /*modules/*.tpl$

Just for info, I received an email from Google search console team this morning about how some of my pages were not mobile friendly.

I use a modified default theme.

It turns out that by disallowig /*modules , you disallow a menu module from making the menu appear presentably, and a module that displays product images from doing its job properly, making product pages an incoherent mess for googlebots.

By replacing that line by the 4 I posted above, you allow googlebots to see the page correctly, but without letting it crawl into the list of modules and index the architecture of your website.

I just tested it, and all my pages are now product friendly.

Prestashop should tweak their robot.txt generator, because I'm certain that 90% of PS stores are affected by this issue.
