Gamehunter
I am using PrestaShop 1.6.011. I installed a theme yesterday, and everything was working, although I needed to make some changes to the site so it would look right after installing the theme. Today, I took the front office off line to make the necessary changes. While I was working in the back office, it suddenly crashed on me, and I lost the graphic/html interface. I logged out so that I could attempt to regain the html pages, but now I cannot log back in. When I access the back office, I get this: When I enter my username and password, it does not log me in, but keeps me on the same page. I have attempted to access the backoffice from different browsers and on different computers with the same negative results. I have no idea what I did wrong. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Guest
Can you switch on the debug mode - it may indicate the error
Gamehunter
Thank you for your reply. I do not know if I can switch on the debug mode. How do you do this?
Gamehunter
What do I look for? I know nothing of programming, so if I do not have an script to follow, I do not know what to look for.
Guest
You will need to access the files on your server using ftp or something like filemanager on cpanel Open the config/defines.inc.php Open this file and you are looking for something like I posted below: /* Debug only */ define('_PS_MODE_DEV_',false); you have to change it to: /* Debug only */ define('_PS_MODE_DEV_',true);
Gamehunter
Thank you for your reply. I did this. But I still cannot access the website. I get the same results. What else do I need to look at so that I can figure out what went wrong? Thank you.
El Patron
when I go to your front office I get 500 error because of bad url http://gamehuntergear.com/gamehuntergear.com/ this is also seen in your back office image src as well. using hosting account and phpmyadmin find table ps_shop_url (note ps is prefix that may differ from your installation). domain and domain ssl would be the same as your url and physicaly uri would be / (for root) or folder name (if not installed in root). this is just my guess, good luck! Gamehunter
Thank you for your reply. I did not find a table ps_shop_url, but I do have a ps_shop_url folder; however, it did not appear to have anything I could change. I put the website in maintenance mode to make changes to it after I installed a theme. It was while I was making the changes, and checking the website after each change, that everything crashed. And now I cannot get back in. What exactly am I supposed to be looking for in the shop_url folder? Thank you.
El Patron
Hi, it's not a folder of files. It is a MYSQL table and is accessed from your hosting account using PHPMYADMIN tool.
Gamehunter
Thank you for your reply. All of this is very new to me. This is the first time I ever have built a web page of any kind, and it has stretched me far out of my comfort zone. It took me a while, but I finally figured out what you meant and looked at the table ps_shop_url using the PHPMYADMIN tool. Those settings appear to be correct. This is what it shows: id_shop_url 1 id_shop 1 domain gamehuntergear.com domain_ssl gamehuntergear.com physical_uri /gamehuntergear.com/ virtual_uri main 1 active 1 Is there anything which needs to be changed or do I need to look elsewhere? Thank you.
Guest
El Patron already explained what the data should be domain and domain ssl would be the same as your url and physical uri would be / (for root) or folder name (if not installed in root). So if your store is at http://gamehuntergear.com/ then change the physical URI to "/"
Gamehunter
Thank you for your reply. The store is at https://gamehuntergear.com. I changed the physical uri to "/". Nothing changed. This is the first time I EVER have built any kind of website. I do not know the languages and programming commands. I have no clue what I did or did not do to cause the problem I am having, but I am trying to solve it the best way I can. So, if I ask questions which appear to be stupid, please excuse the ignorance. Should the physical uri be the complete webserver path? Or should it be the target directory? Thank you for your assistance.
El Patron
it's not a programming issue, i.e. lack of knowledge it's just, well all in the day of anyone starting out new things. so don't get discouraged. haylau! thanks for helping. the physical uri is the actual placement of your shop files, so if in root (httpdocs or public_html) etc. then it would be '/' without the tick marks. If you have it installed in a folder then this would be that folder name and your url would be something like yoururl.com/yourfolder.. at this point, assuming '/' is now uri in mysql table, is to delete the .htaccess file. then if you can access the back office simply toggle on and off your friendly urls, this will regenerate your .htaccess file. tip: starting out, it's a good idea to make complete back up of files and db, then if you finger bone something you have a fallback. having this capability (I recommend back up from hosting ) you can feel more confident that you are not going to lose all. Gamehunter
Thank you for your reply. If I understand you correctly, the physical uri should be /kunden/homepages/24/d430286575/htdocs/clickandbulds/PrestaShop/MyeCommerce? Or do I need to simply delete the .htaccess file? Thank you for your patience and assistance.
Gamehunter
This morning, I deleted the .htaccess file after downloading it first in case deleting it did not work. It did not work. My web page still is broken. Any further suggestions? Thank you.
El Patron
hey gamehunter...sorry you are having this issue. As you can appreciate debug via forum can be difficult. Have you considered posting in job offers? I would find it difficult to believe that once competent webmaster had access that a quick solution could be found. I can move this topic to 'job offers' section if you like. Let me know, and again sorry for your frustrations it's no fun.
Gamehunter
Thank you for your reply and the offer. I have spoken with tech support at 1&1 and they are looking into it for me. If all else fails. I will delete everything and start over. It won't take me nearly as long as the first time. Thank you again for your assistance.
Gamehunter
I figured out what the problem was and fixed it! I was looking at the files via webspace explorer in 1&1 for files with dates around the time the website crashed. I found that the folder cache/cachefs was full of files with dates just before, on and after the date the website crashed. Then I searched here in the forum for cachefs and found this topic: https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/390174-this-webpage-has-a-redirect-loop/?hl=cachefs&do=findComment&comment=1908453 With nothing to lose, I copied the contents of the cachefs folder to my local hard drive where I keep the working files and then deleted the folders on the server. It worked. All I had to do was upload the files for the theme i had installed since tech support had me delete them, and now everything is working again. Thank all of you for your assistance and encouragement.
Guest
A timely reminder for all of us. Cache is the developers nightmare Whenever things go wrong it is always wise to clear caches on the site and on your browser as a starting point. No idea why we did not suggest that in the first place, perhaps thrown by not being able to log in Anyway, well done for getting this sorted
Pedram
Damn i had hoped this work for me too , but nope , i tried deleting the today and yesterday caches in Smarty folder and got same result still error https://www.prestashop.com/forums/topic/441555-back-office-suddenly-died-for-no-reason-error-text-inside/
Gamehunter
Did you try deleting the folders inside the cachefs folder? I didn't have very many folders in the smarty folder and left those alone. All I did was to delete the folders in the cachefs folder.
Pedram
Did you try deleting the folders inside the cachefs folder? I didn't have very many folders in the smarty folder and left those alone. All I did was to delete the folders in the cachefs folder. ' no i didn't do that coz files in cachefs were not dated for today or yesterday but 9 may or so Update Edit : Ok not Sure what the problem was, but i take this chance and upgraded my Prestashop from 1.6.0.6 to 1.6.0.14 and by doing so , it fixed my problem and now it works lol Tnx anyway Edited May 11, 2015 by Pedram (see edit history)
Gamehunter
First, I would use an FTP client to download the folders to you computer, just in case you have to restore them. Then, I would delete all the folders in the cachefs folder. You have nothing to lose, and if you first download them, you can restore them if you have to. but I think the files will be recreated as you access your back office. Good luck.
