Translation issue - Englisch disappears for strings not translated

Hey there,

 

I recently wanted to translate a specific module delivered by a theme. I figured out that

after translating 8% of the module strings all the rest of the strings were missing completely.

How can I by default use "English" for all untranslated and german for all strings which are

available in German already?
