"Virtual" categories

Recommended Posts

Hello Prestashop community!

I wonder if it is possible to create a "virtual category" system - I'll try to explain what I mean.

On our main menu on the front page we would like to have this category structure (we are selling clothes, example simplified):

BABY/
T-Shirts/
Hats/
KIDS/
T-Shirts/
Hats/

Now, as an example, we have a product "Red T-Shirt" from size 50 (baby size) up to 110 (kids size).

If the Red T-Shirt is sold out in size 50 but still available in size 110 it should show up when the customer clicks Kids > T-Shirts but NOT when she/he clicks Baby > T-Shirts.

Would it be possible to implement? How?

Currently we only have a very basic structure like this:

CATEGORIES/
T-Shirts/
Hats/

...and it is no longer sufficient to our needs.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Silker,

What you're searching to do isn't possible to do thanks to the software's settings. Did you take a look on Addons if there is a module that can help you do that?

Hi samyha,

yes I did but I did not find anything. If anyone knows of a module of this kind, please let me know.  :)

As a last resort you can always make: "Red T-Shirt (baby size)" and "Red T-Shirt (kids size)" as separate products.

Hi KiaAzad,

thanks for your input. This is indeed one way to do it. Another way is to create a complete "duplicate" category tree for each main category and only include the subcategories to which a product fits (for example a category called "Apron Bibs" which only consists of products for babies would only exist in the Baby/ main category). However, both these solutions are ugly and complicated. Also for us when adding new products.

We have dealt with this exact problem with our former webshop software, and it didn't have a proper solution. We want to push things forward with a more modern and userfriendly solution with Prestashop. If possible.

Any further tips appreciated!
