No orders yet. Please help me find the answer...

Recommended Posts

I've recently launched my first online shop using the fantastic PS. Thank you PS. It may not have been possible for me without this open source e-commerce solution!

My site is: www.unitedwatches.net

I'm yet ro receive an order on my site. But as I look in my Admin panel, I see that there are so many (over 150, in admin/customers/carts) Guest Carts with the message 'No order created from this cart' under Order Information.

My questions: is there anything wrong with my site? or people just don't buy from my site? Anyone has any idea? Can anyone please help me find the answer?

Please feel free to make any comments/suggestions on to improving my site. I'd appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Well, can be that the (price reduced by 70 %) makes an "too-good-to-be-true-alert", and "fake $1.99 watches from China alarm" goes banana in your visitors heads :)

Never say that you use secure SSL if you don't have a valid SSL Certificate, that trigs an "alarm".

I guess you have tested the site as an customer and done test-buy's, and even finish payments to ensure it works 100%

@ KIH999:

Thank you, KIH999. I appreciate your valuable time.

You probably are right that the price reduction makes a "too-good-to-be-true-alart". And the SSL -- I was working on it when I updated that page. Then I choose to wait for a few days/week as I found out how expensive it would be for me if I get the certificate from my host (startlogic.com). And I forgot to update the page agian. I'll change it now that you've reminded me of it. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to get a cheaper SSL certificate. Please inform me if you have any idea where I can get one that will allow me to host my site here and just plug-in the certificate.

And yes, I have gone through the buying process and it did work then. Hope this works out for the customers as well in the near future.

Again, I thank you very much for the suggestions.

Thanks.

Afaik there is no good SSL-Solution on a shared host.
Need your own IP at least to get this working good.
Now you borrow your Web-host's certificate (startlogic.com) with all other customers that is on that server.
The warning on the browser when certificate is not issued to the visiting site can be very strong, and can scare customers away.
I would have disabled the SSL-support totally..

Maybe a VPS-host is something you should concider in the future if you want to do SSL

Just explain your customers that all sensitive data regarding payments are handeled by third-party paymentprocessors and no CC-details are stored by you..

BTW: Nice site. :)

Thanks again for the quick response. I have already disabled all the SSL options on my site. Though I ahve a desire to get SSL on my site, I'm not sure how soon I might get it. For now, I'll take your suggestion and add that note to my 'Our Payment Options' page. Hope people will be convinced enough then.

... Do you actually think that my site is 'nice'? Is it well presented as far as get up and theme goes? How about the colour choice? Any suggestions on how I can improve it?

Please answer me if you get a chance.

Thanks.

Kobi....few suggestions...ok maybe a dozen or so ;)

1. Almost every single product only says 1 product is available....you need to mix it up a bit 2, 4, 7 ect... makes it look like other people are ordering :)

2. Your top catagory (kids watches) has no products...add some or delete it for now

3. Fashion watches has two sub catagories.... yet there are no pics for each catagory...you need to add a pic on each one.

4. Conider adding more featured products, I have read from actual testing, that people do not mind scrooling down to see them...up to 20 of them.

5. Concider putting a counter at the bottom...you can start these at any number....gives the ideal that your site is popular! The one I use on my site was free and I can click on it and get better stats that what prestashop offers.

6. Concider setting up a few discount items....something you get a really good price on but only mark it up to make a smaller profit to promote sales.

7. Concider adding a bit more info in your short discriptions....make sure key words are in there....ones that you researched on google here: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal?defaultView=2 This is what I use to get all my keywords....note you want 2, 3 and even 4 group key words. You want words that have low usage too...don't bother much with avg or high use...key is to fine your nitch keywords :) There are lots out there!

8. Get some backlinks...yours has zero right now....google has crawled your site but back links are the key, esp anchor back links with hyper text....like what you see in my signature below. why not upgrade your signature now? That's a backline you know :) I am working on BL on mine right now too...should have a few soon.

9. Did you submit your site to MSN search engine? http://www.bing.com/docs/submit.aspx Also, free directories...big one RP8 is: http://www.dmoz.org/add.html but really hard to get into.

10. Concider fixing some html/xhtml errors on your pages....you only have three....I had hundreds on mine...95% were in the text editor coding...WYSIWYG! When using W3C click on Tidyup box to get suggestions on how to fix: http://validator.w3.org/

11. Add a 2009 copyright at the bottom footer... I even see sites with outdated copyright years....not good.

12. Turn off the Top Seller icon at the bottom of the footer, also shows to the bottom right or make up a sale...that says nothing has been sold!

13. Your url says it is almost 5 years old....change 2009 to 2005 that makes you look like you have been around for a while and if they check they will find that it is true! Free site tool: http://www.webconfs.com/domain-stats.php

I have been building my site for 7 weeks now...this is my fourth ecart and the only one that I liked...I have learned a lot in those 7 weeks...this site is awesome....stick with it, keep searching and asking questions... you can only fail if you give up! Once you get some backlinks things will pickup!

Thanks a lot KIH999 & TropischBruin. So sorry for the delay in responding to your posts.

I am leaving the SSL part on to the third party payment processor (PayPal) for now. When I can afford to get a dedicated one, I might just get it then.

Doug! This is the EXACT kind of response I needed SO BADLY. I can't thank you enough.

As you can see, I'm very new to this, and there are lot of modifications to be made in my site. I appreciate that you've taken your valuable time to go through my site and have written a broad feedback. I needed this!

I am a bit busy for these few days. I will go over everything you've mentioned here in a day or two and try to get these corrected for my own good.

I hope you didn't mind that I took this long to get back to your feedback.

THANK YOU!

Take care...

Securing your shop while beeing on a shared hoster adds no extra security.

This is not true, the communication to/from server and customer is still crypted. So "traffic-sniffers" will not be able to get any readable data easy.

The only thing that they can pick up is the login-data (name and password). What can they do with that?
They cannot order if the have to pay first to get their stuff.
And if you are on a shared server they also can pick this up if the security on that shared server has been compromised.

You are right, TropischBruin. But people have a tendency to think twice before they give out their personal information. And having a SSL certificate might sometimes give a boost in the consumer's confidence, just for the shake it's here. Nothing much.

---------------------------

If your host provides it, you can enable apache with SNI support, although not all browsers support it.

khinester,

Thanks for the info. It's nice to know all my options. This just adds into it.
I want my website to be available for any and every kind of browser, so, I'll live without SSL for now, and get a dedicated SSL when I can.

---------------------------

Doug!

Thanks again for sharing! Nice and caring people like you made me join this forum! I hope to learn a lot more about PS through the helping hands of many like you!

Keep it passing on!

Regarding SSL....down the road when you decided to upgrade to a dedicated IP...which I highly recommend, as a shared IP can cause your site to drop to a crawl plus if anyone of the other persons on that site gets banned by google you will also be banned!

Also, you need to remember in SSL you usually get what you pay for....I have read to many horror stories of many getting cutrate SSL prices ($11.95-12.95 yr.) only to have many, many problems with them...not to mention laging out or not working at times...if your current webhost provides SSL at a good rate go with them as they will always give you the best support. When the time comes one that caught my eye at being reasonable with great customer feedback is RapidSSL Certificate, bottom left corner at $19.95 a year: https://www.globessl.com/?gclid=CNybz5qWjp0CFR5HagodditY_w as your site increases in sales you can always upgrade to one of there faster SSL accounts. BTW I don't have an SSL as yet but that is because I use paypal and Googlepay with payment processing being completed on there account end.

Don't underestimate what a "sniffer" can do when he logs in, he can send messages to store-owner..
(1 minute after the real customer have logged out)

with something like this..

Oh!. shit..
I forgot to change the delivery-address, is it too late to.....?
I want to send this directly to my daughter, see my alternative delivery-address, it's named "Sweetie"..

Doug,

Have you ever used any third party (globeSSL, perhaps) SSL for your site? If so, how well did/does it work on your site? Would you recommend using it?

My host offers dedicated SSL for about $80/yr per domain. And I need to use for about 3 different domain I manage. That's why I'm looking around to find every possible options before I make a commitment.

I don't think I have much choice her. Do I?

Yes, KIH999, I am concerned bout this as well. I want to keep away from all frauds. Hopefully I can get the dedicated SSL soon enough so none of my customers or I have to get cought up an any trouble.

Thanks for sharing the point. We all should consider this when we think of safety.

I did a lot of research and they had very good customer reviews, also rapidSSL is a good format for lower SSL which mine will be to start...I really need to install this and I think I will the first of next month....on the other hand I've looked at a lot of the cheaper SSL like godaddy and I would stay far away from ones like that. Go on there site and check them out...do a review search of rapidSSL, etc.

Doug,

Thanks for the information. I'm glad that I found you here! Some of your research will help me a great deal. I will do some research myself before makin a choice.

I'm so happy! I've just received an order from my site! The payment was made via PayPal and everything seem to work fine! Thanks to all of you here who have given me hope to just wait a bit longer before I panic.

Please continue to wish me luck.

Thanks again. Take care...
