walkman
We have an Oscommerce 2.2 website that is due for an overhaul and we're thinking about moving to PrestaShop or Magento. Our existing site has a lot of contributions and some in-house coding so we are thinking of starting a fresh database instead of trying to migrate the data. Is there any kind of loose estimate for when 1.6 RC or final will be available? (OSC was famous for taking years between releases.) A lot of the back end features look like they would be helpful for our operation. If it's reasonably soon we could wait for 1.6, or we could consider moving into a bare-boned 1.5 version that would be easier to migrate to 1.6 when it becomes available. Any thoughts on either approach? Also, does PrestaShop support these features? - guest checkout - Stamps.com and UPS shipping integration - First Data payment module - Ability to provide a text field asking the customer how they heard about us (not a drop down) p.s. I thought I posted this last night -- sorry if it's a duplicate.
El Patron
I'd not wait and go with 1.5.6.2. This will build experience in PS without including 'possible' new release issues and/or theme/module incompatibilities. While building stay complete native, don't be tempted to load this free or paid module until you have set up categories/products. Then you know if you want to move forward with PS and if 1.6 is available, because you 'did not change ps right?' you can more easily upgrade to 1.6.
