Option drop down boxes

I'm trying to create drop-down boxes for a product, having created combinations. This is for a magazine subscription, where customers must choose according to:

Location in the world (UK, Europe, Rest of World)

Then how many years (1, 2, 3)

And airmail or surface mail ...

I have this all working and the prices update correctly, but

If you are in the UK, which is the home country, airmail and surface mail are not relevant and only confuse things having the drop-down box selection present. I can also only get this to work by having an entry in this section for 'mail in UK' which is literally redundant (choosing airmail or surface mail then brings up an error but doesn't tell the customer which bit is wrong).

It would be far simpler if, when UK is selected, the only other box showing is for Years and the Mailing box is invisible. This only appears when either Europe or World are selected.

Is this possible? To have a dynamic presentation? (If there's a commercial module I'll even look at buying in the facility ...). Thanks for any hints.

Hi CJH, welcome to the forum.

A facility for dependent attributes or equivalent functionality has been requested in a number of threads. Prestashop doesn't provide this as standard, unfortunately.

I'm not aware of any free modules that support your requirement, but Attribute Wizard from Presto-Changeo gets good feedback. There was something on their website saying this module supports dependent attributes whereas the more expensive Attribute Wizard Pro doesn't, although that statement seems to have mysteriously disappeared, as I can't find it now!

Having looked at their demo at http://144aw.presto-changeo.com/product.php?id_product=1, I'm still not fully convinced that it will do what you want. You can choose initially from either attribute group, and only the colours displayed are restricted, never the choices of disk size.

I believe you want it so that on your site, the only selection that can be made initially is the Location and that then determines the selectable options (if any) in subsequent dropdowns.

It would be worth contacting Presto-Changeo to verify - they have an excellent reputation for being helpful.

Cheers, Dave

Thanks for your help Dave - it's much appreciated. I'll look into the module ...

Just in case I'm missing something more obvious, I'm also trying to work out how to do something that feels simpler. That is, a single product but (because all goods are sold post inclusive) different prices according to destination. I thought that would work for a similar drop-down box (just select the region, same as before, and have a different price displayed), but Prestashop won't let me have a single attribute like this. It says I have to choose another one - which isn't relevant.

I'll keep plugging away - I'm new to Prestashop, which is so impressive for the most part (and incredibly infuriating elsewhere, such as this and being able to readily change the footer links ...).

A reply from Tomas at Presto-changeo says:

'None of our attribute modules (except Attribute Wizard Pro) do not change anything about the way attributes are used or created, they only change the display on the product page.'

I must admit, seeing the demo I also thought this module ought to work (choose one option, change the remaining options ...) as the demo looked pretty perfect (choose one hard drive size, alter the colours available). But Tomas, he say no and it would require a custom solution. It seems such an obvious need in shop software but it looks like Prestashop can't do it at all, if the Presto-changeo module cannot. I've searched online and cannot find any other module that suggests it might come close, either.

I'm stumped.

Thanks - I'll look at the new suggestion.

A later reply from Presto-Changeo suggests that the module will in fact do part of what is required, possibly enough to get by with. It will allow hiding options that are not valid (instead of bringing up the red warning box), but it cannot hide a complete set of attributes. In my case, it might work because it would allow a default to show (ie. a single radio button, no choice to make - you have to have this) but choosing a different attribute from an earlier set (post to Europe) would cause a different set of buttons to appear (airmail, surface mail ...). It seems it can do that much ...

I'll go back to hassling with trying to understand why changing the css to remove links in the Information and Footer lists don't work like the many solutions online (even after recompiling and clearing the cache). But that, I think, will become a new thread. Thanks again for your help.
