spring00
We built our shop using an IP address and now we wish to point our domain to the webspace. The domain is registered with godaddy and the webspace is elsewhere. Masked forwarding seems to have caused problems so do we need to change the DNS records? By the way we've changed the tables and BO for the new domain and this has caused the problem. Am I right in thinking that masked forwarding wont work? El Patron
for godaddy registrar 1. Set the Host Names (your remote IP address) http://screencast.com/t/SGXZrzK1AV 2. after the host names have taken affect then you would add the name servers, for example http://screencast.com/t/rAciVlB0a 3. check your remote host DNS, should look something like this: http://screencast.com/t/NjF78aHve
spring00
Thank you! One more question. We want to keep our emails with godaddy so would these changes affect them? Sorry I should have explained this yesterday. Edited August 22, 2013 by spring00 (see edit history)
El Patron
your mailserver would be on your remote host, that's how we run it. You may need to play with it a bit or use the godaddy help forum or contact them directly.
Ken_GoDaddy
@spring00 I'm with GoDaddy and came across your post. Were you able to update the DNS to point your MX records to your email with GoDaddy? If not you will need to contact your host as they handle your name servers. To find the MX records you need to use follow the instructions at the link below: http://support.godaddy.com/help/article/5444/checking-your-mx-record-settings-in-the-email-control-center If you have any additional questions, feel free to reply or send me a private message.
