Merging .csv import and old PS database

Recommended Posts

I have a bricks-and-mortar shop which has about 15,000 items. With PS1.4, I have been building an online shop slowly by adding a few products at a time with a .csv import, then manually re-writing descriptions and adding images. I have about 700 done.

Now I am starting a fresh install of PS1.5 (I want to lose my old theme and all the bits & pieces of tried and discarded modules), and I'd like to import my entire stock file from my POS system, then update all the products as I have been doing (noted above).

I do not want to lose all the work I've done online so far. Can anyone think of a way to upload the whole-stock .csv file, and then import or merge my current 1.4 database so all the descriptions & images I've inputted so far are not lost? I need to keep all the ID numbers as those are the SKU's from my POS, and is the only logical way for me to update quantities when items are sold in the shop itself.

Thank you.

I find simply deactivating modules leaves a lot of old code behind - often items don't line up properly etc. especially when I play around with different themes. Also I am worried that if I upgrade the live shop it will not work properly with the new version and theme. I would like to upload my entire stock list, and when I've done that before, all the items that were already on the website had their descriptions overwritten with the ones that are in my POS software (which exports in all capital letters and has a description limit of 25 characters). Although the images remain, I have to manually rewrite all the short descriptions so they are not in capital letters.

Hi, I do not know your it-skills. The modules are in the module folder so can delete them if you do not want them.

If you want a semi clean installationI I would recommend a "manual update" like described here. http://doc.prestashop.com/display/PS15/Manual+update+%28experts+only%29 ...

With the decribed techniques you will be able to upgrade your old database to the new version... after that is done you just copy pictures, mails and the modules you want and install them. This sounds more complicated than it is but hardly depends on your experince you already have. Anyway .. always do backups before playing around with that and test it on a local installation before testing that on your live shop.

Best regards, trip
