"next" pagination button & "compare" bar not aligning in IE9+ using 2-column 1.5.2 Default Template

This is a minor problem which I haven't been able to fix myself.

 

I have adapted the default 1.5.2 template to allow 2 columns (center and right) with a product grid instead of a list. Everything works fine until the pagination apears. This works perfectly in Firefox and Chrome, but in IE the pagination buttons, and compare bar are not aligning on the same line. Also, the products 'new' tag is cut off.

 

- The first screenshot shows the wrong alignment (IE9).

I have gone through he global.css and even the associaed .tpl's but can't seem to put my finger on it. I believe it has something to do with the two columns I changed?

 

- The second screenshot shows the correct alignment (Firefox)

 

Does anyone have any suggestions or fixes?
