Catalog Logic Question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a silkscreen studio, and I plan on printing different designs on a variety of styles of clothing. So for each design (let's call them slogans), I'll offer 3 styles of shirt to choose from (a basic T shirt, a V-neck, and a tank top for instance). For each style of shirt, I will offer three colors. For each color, three sizes.

So, something like this:

Slogan 1

Shirt Style: Basic T

Colors: Red, Yellow, Blue

Sizes: Small, Medium, Large

Shirt Style: V-neck

Colors: Red, Yellow, Blue

Sizes: Small, Medium, Large

Shirt Style: Tank Top

Colors: Red, Yellow, Blue

Sizes: Small, Medium, Large

Slogan 2

Shirt Style: Basic T

Colors: Red, Yellow, Blue

Sizes: Small, Medium, Large

Shirt Style: V-neck

Colors: Red, Yellow, Blue

Sizes: Small, Medium, Large

Shirt Style: Tank Top

Colors: Red, Yellow, Blue

Sizes: Small, Medium, Large

etc.

I know I can use attributes for the sizes and colors. But how can I treat the shirt styles and slogans? if the slogan is the product, then I'd create one product per slogan, per style. But how could I group the shirts by style as well? Is there no way to add a field to the product page? Can I hack the manufacturer field somehow?

In other words, if customers want, for instance, a tank top, then they should be able to click on the tanktop category, and have all the slogans printed on tank tops. likewise, if people like a given slogan, then they should be able to see all the styles of shirts that given slogan is printed on.

having a hard time figuring out what the options are for this.

thanks

Hi Paul,

Thanks for responding. That's an option, I guess I would like the user to see the styles, and not have them hidden behind a drop down menu. Are there ways to make a specific attribute (group?) visible in prestashop as a pseudo-category, with landing pages, photos, etc?

thanks again,

phil

Good Morning,

I suppose you could.,

What if you had your "styles" (shirts) as products with a sample logo/text/image on them,

You could have these in the landing page as Featured Products ( you can change featured products to PICK YOUR STYLE.

When a customer clicks on a desired style they would then be taken to a product page with all you Slogans etc.

When the customer clicks on the Slogan they want they would then be taken to the full description page where you can have your colour and size attributes.

Not sure about the add to cart buttons along the way.

Have you looked at other sites doing printing on shirts, mugs, mouse mats etc, you may get some valuable insight.

If I can find anything else that will help you I will post back here.

Paul

Hey Paul,

You've given me something to think about, had not considered the featured products as a window onto the styles. Cool! I've considered appending a stye to the name of the slogan, and creating a new product for each commbination of shirt/slogan (ie "slogan 1, tank top" for the product name). If the pictures do their job along with the brief & long descriptions, this could be a way to get the behavior I want.

Alternately, I read up on adding another field to the product page in the admin section. This guy's blog had some valuable info...

...but as I am not much of a programmer, I'd be a little worried about hacking PS's functionality quite so heavily and risk compromising integrity, esp when it comes to upgrading.

The other option is to make the styles an attribute group, each one with a matrix of colors and style, but this would pose some questions in terms of getting top level exposure to customers.

Challenges!

At any rate, I appreciate the suggestions and the link, I'll post back at some point with what I wind up coming up with.

Cheers

Phil
