No Currency Error Message at Checkout

Recommended Posts

Please, please, please can someone help, I have emailed the support team now 3 times with this error and no-one has responded in a 3 week period.

I have recently noticed a dramatic increase in abandoned shopping carts, and when I drilled a bit further, I discovered some of my customers are getting a 'no currency' selected error when they checkout using PayPal.

I only have GBP as my currency and this is the default currency. I am getting some orders coming through, so the problem appears to be intermittent. However, I am concerned at the amount of lost sales this is causing.

Can anyone please shed any light?

With many thanks in advance, Miranda

The transition to PayPal works fine, I did not have any problem with a dozen or so attempts I made with a UK address. Had I gone ahead and placed the order it would have worked I reckon.

The problem may be occurring when a foreign address is given but I could not test that as you do not ship to any of the destinations I created an address for (I gave up after some tries with obscure destinations as well known locations seems to be missing - see below).

If the problem is intermittent it would require server access and may take many tries and logging to solve the problem. I suggest you consider seeking help from a professional.

A couple of things on the abandoned carts.

You seem to be missing some countries from the Country drop-down for the address. E.g. USA, France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Sweden etc are missing, Antarctica, Samoa and Dem. Rep. of Congo are there though :) Maybe they are from one of the missing countries and after adding to the cart they cannot create an account.

You do not use a proper SSL certificate (it doesn't look like SSL is enabled in the back office and the site replies to forced HTTPS requests with a certificate belonging to* .secure.secure.co.uk). Some people may be reluctant to place an order/give personal details over an unencrypted channel. You can obtain a certificate for £40-50.

After payment step (on choosing PayPal for payment), the URL of the site changes from http://makeanappycake.co.uk to http://secure.makeanappycake.co.uk. Having secure in the URL is not sufficient to make the connection secure, and changing URL is unsettling. This seems to be the case with the bank wire as well. Make sure you have setup your URL correct in the BO.

Some crawlers seem to be able to interact with the site in a way that will create carts (though usually they are very large carts)

Account I created is Peter Hutchinson, remember to delete it.
