Dafydd
You are trying to import products as categories! You need to select what you want to import from the drop-down list in the 'Import' block. It defaults to categories (the first in the list) so you need to remember to change it each time you import a file.

cedricfontaine
There could be a timeout limit on your hosting. Sometimes it could be 60 seconds. So if the script takes too long the process will be killed. You may have to cut your file in slices.
Dafydd
Cedric makes a good point about the timeout issue if you have a large number of rows in the file. When uploading 1500 products with details for all fields i had to split my file. You also need to be careful with the content for each field; e.g. If you have illegal characters then it will return an error, but the message should make it clear where the problem lies. For my product csv upload I had to try a number of times before I got the content exactly right and uploaded without any errors. You just have to keep trying. Remember that on each attempt you need to: 1. upload the csv file to import 2. select the new csv file from the drop-down menu 3. select the type of import (categories, products, etc.) from the drop-down menu 4. go to the next screen and select the correct field for each column 5. remember to mark the number of lines to ignore (e.g. if you have a header line in the file).
