Manufacturer List

I am trying to complete the following with the search bar and manufacturer list:

 

I am trying to have them next to each other so where you can type for example : 'backpack' and select the brand and then it will result in showing the results for that specific manufacturer with the keyword entered. Also if they just want to select the manufacturer and search that way that it will display all the products for that brand.

 

The problem that I have is that I need the above to work of course. The other problem is that when I remove the manfuacturer block from the home page it will not show the manufacturers in the drop down box.

 

Also for the keyword search text to erase as soon as you click the box to type something.
