multiple domains?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I'm Joe and am considering building my first web-store with PrestaShop.
My long-term goal is to own several web-stores and I'm looking
for a reliable/flexible shopping cart software to use and a supportive community
to join and participate.

Here are a few quick questions. Won't you please reply:

1) Since PS is free can we install it on as many domain names as we wish?
For example, one installation at abc.com and another installation on xyz.com.

Also, can we make more than one installation on the same domain name? or use
sub-domains for this?

2) Can we install purchased modules and templates on more than one installation of PS?

I noticed the modules are highly priced so it seems it is through the modules
that the developers make their income and rightly so. I'd be comfortable paying the
high prices for modules if I know I can install them on more than one installation of PrestaShop.

4) I saw the thread on multi-stores. I assume that is about having several
shopping carts/stores all located within the same storefront-installation, like a mall.
But "multi-stores" in this context is different than multi-installations on different
domain names or within a sub-domain, isn't this correct?

I appreciate your replies and clarification.

Looking forward to joining the community...

Sincerely,

Joe P.

Hi Joe,
Prestashop is free and open source, you can install as many instance of the script as you want :) You can install X prestashop in X folders of you server too, if you want. When you buy a module or a theme, you can use it only for one Prestashop instance (so I suggest you to wait the 1.5 version of Prestashop which will be released in september to use multishop function and create several shops with only 1 Prestashop). The multishop function simulate several installations of Prestashop : you can create X shops in your back-office and link all of these shops to differents domains, select themes for these shops, etc...

Hi Raphael,

Thank you for replying. I know my questions were very basic, but we all have to start from the beginning.

Thank you for telling me about version 1.5. I think you are saying when we purchase modules for the 1.5 version those modules can be used with all the simulated stores (even those linked to other domains) so we don't have to purchase the same modules again and again for all the shops. Sounds great.

I will install 1.4 just to get familiar with PrestaShop but not open a live store until I install 1.5. later.

Thanks again,

Joe P.
