No FTP access on hosted plans?

On PrestaShop Hosted there is no FTP by design. You cannot upload or edit files directly. All customizations must be done via modules or the limited theme editor. If you need full file access (FTP/SFTP, overrides, custom templates), you must use a self-hosted PrestaShop installation.

On some hosted plans, FTP access is not provided because the hosting provider manages the server environment for security, stability, and ease of use. Instead of FTP, they usually offer built-in file managers, dashboards, or deployment tools to upload and manage files, which reduces the risk of misconfiguration and unauthorized access.  EroMeMagazine is an online platform sharing lifestyle, celebrity, flight, health, and culture content.

Thanks for confirming, appreciate the reply!

Whats the quickest (pain free), way of installing it on a remote server?

For a clean, manageable, and scalable PrestaShop hosting setup, I generally recommend a VPS with Plesk.

Plesk simplifies almost every operational task you deal with day-to-day in PrestaShop:

  • Centralized management of domains, databases, email, SSL, and DNS
  • One-click staging / clone sites (critical for upgrades and testing)
  • Simple cron management for indexing, emails, and cleanup jobs
  • Easy switching between PHP versions per domain
  • Full support for PHP-FPM, including dedicated PHP-FPM pools
  • Clear visibility into logs, resource usage, and security settings

This used to be something you only got with dedicated servers, which made it expensive and often unnecessary. Today, many VPS providers offer NVMe-SSD–backed VPS plans, effectively closing the performance gap while keeping costs reasonable.

PrestaShop is database and I/O heavy, so NVMe storage makes a noticeable difference in both the front office and back office—page loads, indexing, imports, and module operations all benefit.

In short, a VPS + Plesk + PHP-FPM + NVMe SSD setup is a proven, modern baseline that stays easy to manage, clean, and scalable as your shop grows.

That is really useful advice, thank you El Patron!

Any particular companies/packages you recommend?  Currently get about 100 orders per day then about 250/day in peak season.

Main region is in the UK

perfect, I have moved many clients to fast host uk, even in US as they have different centers you can choose.

for vps, these all have nvme, the last two I recommend, it's like a fish tank you wish you had gotten larger. on.

Export Data From Back Office (Only What Is Allowed)

On PrestaShop Hosted you do not have:

  • FTP / SFTP
  • phpMyAdmin
  • SQL tools
  • Database dumps
  • File system access

You can only export data via the Back Office using CSV:

  • Categories
  • Products
  • Customers
  • Orders
  • Addresses
  • Discounts (limited)

This is the only data you can take with you.

Install a Clean PrestaShop on New Hosting (on temporary domain, they are cheap)

On the new hosting provider:

  • Install a fresh PrestaShop (same or newer major version)
  • Configure PHP, memory, cron, mail, SSL
  • Do not attempt to “clone” Hosted — it is not possible

Import Data in the Correct Order

Using the CSV files:

  • Categories
  • Products
  • Customers
  • Orders
  • Discounts / rules

Notes:

  • IDs will not match the Hosted store Because PrestaShop Hosted does not give you access to the original database or its auto-increment counters, and the new store necessarily creates its own records from scratch.  An experienced person/agency it's possible to match but it beyond scope of what I can describe here.
  • Order history is informational (not transactional)
  • Customer passwords usually carry over, but should be tested

Rebuild Everything Else Manually

The following cannot be exported from Hosted and must be rebuilt:

  • Theme
  • Modules
  • Module configuration
  • Payment gateways
  • Shipping rules
  • Taxes
  • SEO URLs (partial recovery only)
  • Email templates
  • Performance configuration
  • Custom logic
  • possibly inventory

This is the largest part of the work.

Validate, Then Switch DNS

  • Fully test on staging
  • Verify checkout, payments, emails, pricing
  • Switch DNS once validated
  • re export new customers

Thank you El Patron - very useful and much appreciated!

Dedicated would be nice to have, but is definitely out of my budget. Their VPS seems on par with Digital Ocean or Akamai which I currently use.

Thanks again!
