Combination images reverting to default image

Recommended Posts

1.7.6.8

I have some colour combinations on a product. I have uploaded images of the colours and allocated the correct image to each combination, but it keeps defaulting back to the cover image. eg when a customer selects a colour to add to their cart, it does not change the colour in the  image, although there is a scroll through available of all the images.

I have edited the combinations over and over and saved the edits but each time it reverts to the  cover image. I've even deleted and replaced all the images but it still does the same. I have tried with a different browser. It just defaults each combination image every time to the cover. Any ideas please?

maybe this helps:

Regenerate product images:
Sometimes, the image cache gets stuck. Go to Design > Image Settings and click Regenerate thumbnails for products. Clear your browser cache as well.

and of course, clear cache...

Thank you. I've done this but it hasn't sorted the problem. :(

Hi @Littlepants sorry you continue to have this issue, as you can imagine it's difficult to debug via forum, here are some screen shots of one of my clients, their combinations, maybe you will see in these at least how a working product with combinations are working:

https://app.screencast.com/i2VCe77ugYc78

https://app.screencast.com/onWaCqLmqT7o2

if these do not provide clues, then using chrome-->inspect-->console look for .js errors

It’s possible that a JavaScript error is preventing the product image from updating when you select a combination. Here’s how you can check for errors using Google Chrome:

  • Open your product page on the front office (where the issue appears).
  • Right-click anywhere on the page and select Inspect to open the Developer Tools panel.
  • Click on the Console tab at the top of the panel.
  • Now, interact with the product by selecting different combinations or colors.
  • If there are any JavaScript errors, they will show up in red text in the Console window.

Look for messages such as Uncaught TypeError, ReferenceError, or anything related to JavaScript or product images.
You can take a screenshot or copy any errors you see and share them in the forum—this will help others diagnose the problem more specifically.

Tip: If you’re seeing errors related to files in your theme or modules, mention which theme or module you’re using when you post your results.

Sorry I don't understand any of this! I'm not an IT expert. I just use the left hand column to do anything. I've tried everything I can think o but nothing works.

"Open your product page on the front office (where the issue appears)". I don't even understand what you mean by this. It's a products. I can go to the product page and edit it, and that's where I;m editing the combination photos. It appears to woork but as soon as I leave (after saving everything) it reverts back to the  default. I have a mac so there's no right clicking and command click does nothing.

Sounds like there might be a caching issue or a problem with how the combination images are being saved or referenced. Try clearing your cache or checking if the image paths are correctly linked in your system. If you're using a CMS or plugin, make sure it's updated—sometimes bugs like this get fixed in newer versions.

Thanks but I've cleared the cache. Everything is up to date
