I can not change the category positions

Hey guys,

this is driving me crazy. I am running prestashop version 1.7.6.7

In other prestashops i have used i am able to drop and drag the categories into the order i want. but for this shop i can not for some reason. is there a setting i am missing to turn it on?

There is no such issue in Prestashop 1.7.6.7 the position sorting works fine.
Maybe there is some JS issue due to which you are facing this issue.
Please check browser console for JS errors, if any error is present then you have to resolve the same otherwise you have to contact some developer to fix the same.

if i do a new install yes the positioning works. 

but in my shop version, the positioning is disabled somehow. does anyone know how to reactivate it? or which file controls the positioning?

I can not see any errors in the console log.

i would also like to add if i upgrade to 1.7.7.7 the positioning is still disabled.
