Display Product based on reference

Hey everyone,

 

I sell a product and this product has two combinations. One combination is upgrade version. 

 

When the customer add to cart the standard combination, i'd like to offer him the upgraded combination in checkout cart page. I thought i can add a reference to each combination and at checkout page, i'd check if what is in the cart the standard combination the offer will show up else it will not. 

Is there any suggestions? How can I get to show a combination based on reference set to it? 

 

Any thoughts please??
