Software release life cycle

Each new version improves PrestaShop but it does not bring the same kind of enhancements. Below is a summary of all version types you might download and their maturity stages:

Major

A major version offers not backward-compatible enhancements.

Minor

A minor version fixes bugs and introduces backward-compatible features.

Patch

A patch version corrects regressions and adds security fixes only.

Alpha

Beta

An alpha/beta version tests the stability of all features.

A release candidate makes sure no regression prevents the stable version to be released.

Stable

A stable version ensures the maturity of the release.
