Customizing checkout was easy in Prestashop 1.6, everything needed was in two files: order-carrier-opc-advanced.tpl, order-opc-new-account.tpl However, these files no longer exist. I don't see how attributes would solve the problem. I've edited product.tpl instead and chose for default category id to display some text, for next default category id different text, etc.
