  1. Addons - why do many addons for a shopping cart? they seem to be everywhere, so many addons out there that would just confuse about anyone. Errors- Everytime I come to the forum, i see a list of new errors.,. cant get this to work, cant get that to work, addon doesnt work, and so on.... How do you guys not get overwhelmed with all this? I am not even sure where to start... Its almost like i need to have a PS coder and designer in my back pocket, because after reading this forum, i feel i would need them....
  2. gotcha, that is beyond my skill set.. If you can not find a solution, then consider posting in the paid section where you will find a lot of skilled eCommerce coders that can help you out...
  3. PrestaShop will work on KnownHosting, they are a top of their class vps provider, and they provide true 24/7 support. I recently installed my cart on a shared provider, and almost right away, I was using higher limit resources, so if you are going to be serious ecommerce player, then decide a quality hosting provider, and reliable...
  4. I had a very bad fatal error yesterday...the return result code looked crazy.... first thing I did was make a post to the forum, of course I got no response, then I thought, then i presented to my host if they would look into this is a script error, or was it a server error that I just did not recongize, most hosts do not support you if it is a script that is not supported by their host; lucky me that it was as simple as a directory not having the correct permissions... My advice is: 1: if you are not a coder, then do not play around with files that you know nothing about, you can just as easily screw stuff even more, and make it even harder to get going again.... 2: contact your host, they maybe more helpful then you think, the worst they could say is go away... most hosts will do what they can, because they know times are tough, and they want to keep you as a client.... I am far from an expert on presta, in fact I need consultation myself sometimes....
  5. i am not sure how new your domain is, or if you just recently moved hosts.... I just changed hosts myself, moved the files from the old host to the new host, changed the dns, and for two days I got page not found because i was still pointed to the old host that no longer had any files, and dns had not fully updated.... did you recently change hosts, and dns? if so, you maybe waiting for the dns to fully update. if this is not the case, then I would know what your issue is, maybe a file was removed, maybe something got corrupt, i just do not know enough about presta yet...
  6. I would not advise you to do both since google will see this as duplicate content... ie: www.domain.com/coder-for-hire domain.com/coder-for-hire You should pick one or the other, then stay with that... most prof sites go with www.domain.com If you set it up for www.domain.com, then anyone that goes to domain.com will be pointed over to www.domain.com
  7. I actually tried putting this rule in htaccess... all i got was this: This webpage has a redirect loop I guess i have to put www in the backoffice url... otherwise, I am just not sure...
  8. I am wondering if there is an addon that will allow you to disable the buy button on real products and services, then be able to add a buy button/url to affiliate product? Some products maybe real, other products maybe from affiliates ie: clickbank...this why I can add all sorts of content for affiliate proucts, then enable affiliate buy/link/url, then the buyer would then just follow that link, and i have the perfect tracking script, all i would need is to insert the tracking url to the affiliate site, and the affiliate link is hidden...
  9. You would think there would be options like, if you are doing shipping by weight, then it adds the price, but if the customer goes over a certain price, then they get free shipping, so therefore you would be going by weight until a certain price is met, then free shipping kicks in, but if you want to offer shipping on this weight, but not that weight, then you are just being picky...make it simple for yourself and customers, if their weight = this price amount = free shipping ie: 5pounds = $20 = Free Shipping or 3pounds = $19 = Your Shipping Rate is $x.xx, or make it simple, estimate the weight to price, if they meet or exceed that price then they get free shipping...
  10. If a store has multiple vendors, then one FAQ does not fit all, since most if not all vendors have different terms, policies, returns, etc.... Would like to be able to setup SEO FAQ for all vendors, so when a buyer is looking at a particular vendor section, then they can access that vendors FAQ (which is setup by cart owner) What do you guys think, or does this exist already? Thanks
  11. I am not sure why anyone would want to upload 7,500 files... upload your zip to cgi-bin then use file manager to unpack. then in file manager copy files to appropriate area.... Either take an hour to upload 7500 files or take 5 min or so using the above method...
  12. i am not sure about the first one, but contact your host concerning magic quotes. they will need to enable/disable magic quotes for you...to my knowledge you did not do anything wrong, presta is just checking server, then telling you what needs to be done... if no one else reponds, then ask your host about the first issue also, maybe they will know...
  13. do it this way... purchase online SSL > Rapid SSL is fairly cheap as they can get quite expensive... using htacess, point your site that it will load only as www.domain.com purchase your SSL cert for www, because you then can use it for www, and non-www. but if you purchase a non-www, it will not work on www.domain.com then contact your host to complete setup.... that is the way I would do it... ps. use htaccess to setup either www, or non-www,, use one or the other, but not both, other wise google will see both as duplicate content, at least that is what I have been told..so I would set it up for www.domain.com so if someone goes to domain.com, then it would just auto point over to www.domain.com
  14. cart was working fine, all i did was changed hosts, setup db, change db setup, etc... now I get this: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'SmartyException' with message 'unable to write file /home/abcshop/public_html/cache/smarty/compile/wrt50cd13e78d4ec9.43840100' in /home/abcshop/public_html/tools/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_write_file.php:44 Stack trace: #0 /home/abcshop/public_html/tools/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_template.php(201): Smarty_Internal_Write_File::writeFile('/home/abcshop/p...', '<?php /* Smarty...', Object(Smarty)) #1 /home/abcshop/public_html/tools/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_templatebase.php(155): Smarty_Internal_Template->compileTemplateSource() #2 /home/abcshop/public_html/tools/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_templatebase.php(374): Smarty_Internal_TemplateBase->fetch('/home/abcshop/p...', NULL, NULL, NULL, true) #3 /home/abcshop/public_html/classes/controller/Controller.php(354): Smarty_Internal_TemplateBase->display('/home/abcshop/p...') #4 /home/abcshop/public_html/classes/controller/FrontController.php(615): ControllerCore->smartyOutputContent('/home/abcshop/p...') #5 /home/abcsh in /home/abcshop/public_html/tools/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_write_file.php on line 44 Any ideas? Thanks [resolved] dir permissions set wrong on new host.
  15. yes, back to my vps, they are not cheap, but they are pretty damn reliable... It was not a personal ban..the server is not human, maybe it saw something that a human did not see, then the server banned my IP...I am not sure the server saw for it to think it had to ban my IP...at the time the site went down, I was just doing some changes inside the cart.... I am glad that I have not cancelled my VPS because they gave me a discount $20/mo discount when i signed up, and If i had cancelled, then I would have lost the discount....
