Allabouthemoney
I have prestashop version 1.4 stable final version and I've resolved the problem by deactivating all the other language packs. So go to: Back Office > Tools > Languages and just click disable on all the language packs that are installed

rocky
It's the "Canonical URL redirect" option on the Preferences > SEO and URLs tab that does that. If you disable that option, it won't redirect to /en/, but then you will have duplicate content for both http://www.yoursite.com/ and http://www.yoursite.com/en/ so you will need to manually redirect http://www.yoursite.com/en/ to http://www.yoursite.com/
