Version 1.6.1 Guest IP 0.0.0.0

Hi, I notice that the community is not as active in helping as it was 5 years ago ( except for the stalwarts) but have still have a couple of minor issues  after my upgrade from 1.5.4 to 1.6.1 and I was wondering if anyone else has had/seen this issue

One of these is guest IP address, mine now read 0.0.0.0 when I use PHP 1.7.0 and above. If i try PHP 1.5.6 I fail to get the back office working and if I go lower I get the correct IP address but the shops modules are not as stable.

Can anyone throw some light on the reason, possibly a part of the upgrade has not worked?
