cannot expand tree in order to asign products to a category

Hi,

I am struggling for a week now and been on all forums but I couldn't find a fix for my problem.

I have 1.6.1.6 version and I can't assign products to other category than Home. The tree just won't expand.

Please help.

Hi, 

As per my understanding, there can be two possible reasons for the same.

1. Javascript error (Open the chrome developer toolbar & check if there is any JS error in the console)

2. Tab Ajax request is throwing the fatal error. (Kindly check the error log for the same). This can also be checked from the Network panel of Google chrome developer toolbar. Refer to the screenshot below.

Regarding javascript error the only message is this:

Tab Ajax request seems to be also ok

I don't know if important  -  I am on localhost with MAMP. What other info do you need? Thank you

Hi again, solved it! It was my poor understanding of cms pages versus product category and new root category! Sorry for wasting your time.

Update: the tree was not expanding because it had no categories inside! All categories made from Catalog/Categories were made as root categories so.... After I deleted all and recreated them everything works normally. Thank you for your support though because that made me think further to what is wrong on my side. All the best.
