How to call a function's module

I'm beginner on Module development, I've created a Function in my module class :

public function getNbColisFromCart($cart) {
	// Some code
}

I want to return a shipping price in term of cart. How I can do this ?

you can use source

echo '<pre>';

var_dump($cart);

to see structure of cart object and print shipping cost attribute
