Cannot get footer area back

Months ago we finally got our upgraded to 1.6.1.13 and it has been no easier to work with since, probably worse actually. When the site was returned to me after the upgrade my entire bottom portion (footer area) of homepage was completely worthless. The footer info that is usually there was gone and was replaced with our category menu. I finally figured out how to move that from the bottom of the page but now I cannot get any of the normal footer type info back. If I do get something back it is white against a white background. I can no longer get the footer area to be black. I am using the Blackhawk free theme. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is there anywhere where people and work with presta test sites? There used to be a way to make a test site.
