Problem on implementing module and Hooks

i would like request to give some idea about how to use module and hooks. what is actually hooks define? how can i implement module in different page. in deafult template module is only used in home page. but i need to implement is in different page. and also can i duplicate  module. for eg: i need to implement slider module in two different page so how can i do that. and also all posation are only define for home page how can i used that posation in different page.

Add a custom hook function similar with the displayHome (different name of course) in the module's class, then use that hook in any template with {hook h="my_custom_hook"}.
