Sandboxing Module Development?

I'm currently developing a module for Prestashop (initially on the 1.6 version). Thing is I'd like to be able to install and test said module on my dev environment, where I already have PS installed and running.

PS says I can't do it because I'm not authorized and so I've learned I need a contributor account and key to be able to do so. I plan - of course - on eventually doing all this, but isn't there a way to develop and test this module without the need for an account, etc...?

Solved: I was fooled by the fact that PS doesn't show error messages by default, so I've assumed it was working fine with PHP7.1 (it runs as if).

When I've tried testing on a PHP5.6 env everything went smoothly.
