Creating products with different sizes and colors

Hi!

I need to create a product where the customers can choose a length of a fabric as well as the color. e.g.:

- 2x Red, 40cm
- 5x Red, 90cm
- 7x Blue, 120cm

I know I could create variants, but this doesn't seem right since we have articles with 30 colors times, let's say, 500 lengths (500cm).
A product with 15000 variants won't work that well I guess. 

I mean I could do only tenths and end up with 10, 20, 30, 40cm steps, but this would still sum up to 1500 variants per product.

Any other solutions?
