Limiting the number of combinations by grouping them?

Hi guys,

I came here with kind of an overload problem - in our new shop we have to add tens of products (chairs) with thousands of combinations for each. For example, customer needs to select color of seat base (1 of 2), type of armrest (1 of 4), type of mechanism (1 of 5), and type and color of upholstery (12 types of fabric, around 20 colors in each). As it may be waaay to much for the server, I'm looking for a solution to limit the ammount of combinations.

My idea is to limit the ammount of types and colors of upholstery in the back office to 3 price groups (as it is made in the manufacturer catalogue), but let the customers select type and color in the front office...

Is there any module for this? Do you have any solutions to make it work flawlessly?
